Our core design principles were to make this system:

Simple
To be understood in 10 minutes and not bog players down in complexity.

Familiar
To provide Game Master familiarity and confidence with game mechanics by not reinventing wheels.

Modular
To scale in complexity to fit different situations and contexts.

Pragmatic
To be workable in many contexts.

Insightful
To be impactful and improve decision making.

This guidebook will be your companion on this journey, providing an understanding of the system's fundamentals, mechanics, and applications. It is a guide to help you simulate outcomes through discussion and probabilistic thinking over crunchy mechanics for various situations.

Differences to DnD

To keep to our design principles, this game should be FAMILIAR to anyone who has played DnD. However, we have stripped a lot back to SIMPLE core game mechanic functions to run IMPACTFUL games with minimal instructive time for players new to RPGs. When complexity is required, add rules to make it MODULAR.

Here is a list of core DnD mechanics that you will find remain or are removed for this system and why.

Stats Remain to give characters skills

Feats  Are called abilities

Classes Are called archetypes

Backgrounds Have more weight because motivation, intent and mindset are critical IMPACT skills focused on in TTx

Dice Checks (DC) Are set by the player and GM in discussion using probabilistic reasoning

Encounters/Initiative is called Crunch Time. Players act in order of their DEX modifier from highest to lowest.

NPCs, Exploration and downtime only exist when they serve the aim of the exercise or scenario.

Actions, bonus actions and reactions Players have only 1 action they can do on their turn for simplicity and training prioritisation.

Movement There is no movement unless physical / temporal elements are crucial to the scenario. If so, add modular rules. Everything is in the theatre of the mind/abstract diagrams otherwise.

proficiencies, skills and saving throws can be drawn from basic stats, but are not required

Combat (AC, attack rolls, damage, HP) can be modularly added if adversarial combat is required, otherwise considered removed for most scenarios.

Spells and magic unfortunately don’t exist in our world.

Itemsdon’t exist unless they serve the aim of the exercise or scenario
